My Story
"Where rigorous gastroenterology meets integrative clinical thinking.”
I’m Dr Laura Flor-Prades, a Consultant Gastroenterologist with an integrative, evidence-based approach to complex digestive symptoms. My work sits between conventional gastroenterology and a broader clinical understanding of nutrition, microbiome science, metabolism and the gut–brain axis.
Many of my patients come when standard explanations have not been enough — with persistent bloating, IBS, recurrent SIBO diagnoses, food-related symptoms, reflux, altered bowel habits, or symptoms that remain unresolved despite previous investigations.

I trained in Medicine at the University of Navarra and specialised in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia. My doctoral thesis on quality of life in inflammatory bowel disease was awarded the Cum Laude distinction — and it shaped the way I understand digestive medicine: symptoms, tests and diagnoses only tell part of the story.
My international training includes advanced endoscopy fellowships at Hospital Universitario de Bellvitge in Barcelona, Policlinico A. Gemelli in Rome and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London. I later worked for several years as Bank Staff Endoscopist Consultant at St Mary’s Hospital London.
Working across the British and Spanish healthcare systems — through public, private, secondary and tertiary referral centres — has shaped a flexible clinical approach and strong diagnostic reasoning, particularly in complex or unclear cases.
In 2022, I established my private practice dedicated to integrative gastroenterology, combining specialist medical assessment with evidence-based nutrition, microbiome science, metabolic health and gut–brain medicine.
My approach combines conventional gastroenterology with postgraduate training in clinical nutrition (BANT-registered), Functional Medicine, microbiome science, FODMAP therapy, and the psychological and behavioural dimensions of digestive health — including eating behaviour and gut-brain axis interventions.
“What differentiates my practice is not the use of integrative tools alone, but the order in which they are used. Clinical assessment and differential diagnosis come first. Nutrition, microbiome work, gut–brain strategies and lifestyle interventions are integrated only within a structured medical framework. My role is to step back, reassess the case, and help clarify what may be driving the symptoms and what should happen next.”
Alongside clinical practice, I have held university teaching roles in Gastroenterology, trained junior doctors and research fellows, and published in peer-reviewed journals on advanced endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease and therapeutic gastroenterology. My work has also been presented at national and international digestive disease meetings.
International training and clinical experience across two healthcare systems have given me extensive experience working with patients and multidisciplinary teams from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. I consult fluently in English and Spanish.
